Lets play, The Biggest Loser

Hello everyone,

I started the NS program on October 26, 2007 and have lost 40 pounds since joining. I have a challenge for anyone who would like to participate in our game. Its called "The Biggest Loser", but with a twist.

The twist is that no one gets kicked off the game, because that would just be silly. We are all here to lose weight and encourage each other through the challenges we may face during the program. The idea behind this game is to first have fun, second to keep a tab on how everybody else is doing, and finally (this is the best part) see if you're the biggest loser by the end of this program.

Prepare to get unlimited support, advise, encourgement, and fun monthly challenges to help keep you motivated.

To begin, just reply to this post with your thoughts & goals so that we all can share & embrace our new lives.

Good luck,

Neil Neur

Hi, I just started today and would like to join in. I need to lose over 100lbs so have a long way to go. Did well on the food and liked it. Looking forward to losing with you. My starting weight is 276 and you are the first person I have shared that with. I am having a milestone birthday next year- the big 50- and just had it sink it that I have been overweight for half of my life. Want to spend the next years thinner. Success to all.

Hello Everyone,

Congratulations Successfulnow...

....and welcome to the "Lets play, The Biggest Loser" game. It sounds like we both share the same goal. I too want to lose up to a 100 pounds, but if I lose 80 pounds in the next 4 months, I would be happy with that. I agree, the food is really good, except for the scarmbled eggs...yuk!! Have you incorporated any exercises into your program?

...and welcome to the "Lets play, The Biggest Loser" game. A word of advice, make sure to count all the food packages upon arrival. When I counted mine, I found that there were several items missing and several other items substituted. So, what weight goal are you trying to reach?

I gained a bit with all my kids...actually for each pregnancy I gaind 70+ pounds no matter how much or how little I ate.  It was well worth it as my first child was nearly 11 lbs and the boys were a healthy 9 lbs.  I lost most of the weight and got back down to the 180s with a lot of work.  Now I want to shed the rest of the weight I gained and try to get back to a weight I was before kids and a few lower to 145.

Thank you for the advise.  I just got my food today so I'll start tomorrow.  I'll make sure I count it all to ensure I have everything.  So far a soup cup was found cut at the top and lost most of the product so I'm trying to get that fixed now.

Hey everyone,

My first weigh in today, after 1 week. I lost 7 pounds. Down from 285 to 278. The first week is always the hardest, as our bodies try to adjust to the controlled portions. The hardest thing for me in my first week was keeping that "full & statisfied" feeling after a meal. Sometimes I would get hungry again 30 mins after a meal. So, to overcome the hunger feeling, I ate raw cucumbers & filled up on home-made lemonade (sweetened with sweet n' low). Both of which can be consumed in unlimited amounts.

So, here's a challenge for Maknagoal, Successfulnow, doitforreal & any other new participants who would like to join our game. I challenge you to beat my 7 pounds of weight loss in your first week. Good Luck!!!

Hi, I would like to join in too. I started N/S on monday 10/29 so this is day 3 for me. I know what you mean by feeling hungry a little bit after I eat. I just drink lots of water, but I like your idea about the cukes and lemonade I'll have to try that. My starting weight was 203 and I would like to lose 63 lbs.

I am in. Today is my first day of meals and excercise. I find the real show very inspiring. I have 60+ lbs to lose. I am generally a pretty impatient person, but I realize this is going to be a long haul.  I have been at this for almost 15 hrs and my pants are still tight - Geez, C'mon.

Seriously, good luck to all.

Hello everyone,

I would like to introduce to you my girlfriend (LR), who is also on the NS program. She's been on the program for 7 days now, but she still hasn't weighed in yet. She started at 187 pounds and would like to weight 130. Although she feels the program is working, unfortunately she has a very weak metabolism, which causes her to have irregular bowel movements. She's tried ever type of natural cleasing medicine, exercise, diet, to get her regular again, but so far it has had little or not effect. So, she would like to know has anyone have/had a similar problem and how did you cure it?
Thanks....LR

I, too, am trying to get healthier and fitter before that big "50". Mine is next Father's Day, when is yours? We can encourage each other on our journey. I made a great supper last night. I had a veggie pizza. I started with the thin crust pizza, added mushrooms, green peppers, a little bit of red onion, and used black olives as my fat for this meal and some italian seasoning. Yummy:)
neilneur, my only suggestion for your girlfriend's constipation is miralax. I have heard of people having good results with that back when it was Rx, now it is available over the counter. My weigh-in is next Monday morning and hope to beat your 7 lbs!!!

I've successfully completed my first full day.  I started the program yesterday at lunch.  I think I've done well.  There isn't a physical change yet, but I'm expecting great things.  Neilneur and LR...I would think about getting a colonoscopy.   I know it will be a bit humiliating, but you need to take care of yourself.  After you've been given a clean bill of health, make sure to incorporate lots of fiber and water in your diet and follow your doctor's advise

Successfulnow and Bshan, thank you  for the advice. I looked up miralax and it looks promising. LR had never considered doing a colonoscopy, but I think you just changed her mind.

Just to let everyone know, I'm keeping a close tab on everyone's weight loss. So make sure you mention your weigh ins everytime. We have 16 players in our game, including some veterans. I've got everyone's starting weight except for STRIVE2LUV, NICOLE_1, JLM212, LA_FLACA & IMACRAFTER. Also what's your goal weight?

Does anyone like the food so far? Which one do you like and dislike? Personally, I like the fact that the food does not need to be refrigerated, besides I dont think all those entrees would have fit into my freezer. So far, I've liked most of the chicken & vegetarian entrees but, I definitley dont like the scrambled eggs, microwavealbe chocolate cake and the cherry jubilee pudding...yuk!!!

My weight, as of 10/31/07, is 207 and my goal weight is 135. This is going to be fun!

I feel your pain Neil & PennyReel. Some of the food is just plain yucky. I have never been a picky eater (maybe part of the reason I am in this predicament) but some of this stuff is not edible. I have been keeping mental notes on what are not repeats and I have adjusted next month's order accordingly. Some of my least faves: tuna casserole, thousand island with chicken ***, any of the chicken soups, beans and ham soup... People seem to like the chicken soups though so I'm thinking that maybe mine were spoiled. They were just so gooey.

Oh well, I guess there has to be some misses, esp. with the first order, but overall I am happy with the quality.

As for your girlfriend...what about Dannon's Activia yogurt? They have light flavors and it's supposed to make you regular. Haven't tried it myself but those commercials seem to be on TV all the time. www.activia.com

Hi guys, I've been doing well on the program so far and have liked most of the food (except the pretzels).  I even liked the scrambled eggs (mine had sausage and vegetable crumbles), I cooked mine on the stove though and added a couple of green onions.  I haven't tried very many things  and am hoping most of the rest will be tolerable. I'm keeping a journal of all of the things I like and dislike and will order next month accordingly.  Have a good day and keep on losing.

I'm guessing that the starting weight listed for me is when I investigated about joinging nutrisystem. Because unfortunately I had gained weight before I actually started the system, it was the motivation to begin on 10/29 instead of beginning on Nov. 1. But this way, even though I have been losing this week, I am still more than the posted starting weight. Is there any way to change the starting weight?
I'm proud to say that since I began the program, I have been 100% with my food. I too am keeping record of my food likes and dislikes. I am doing the vegetarian program and have liked everything so far. I had the mixed berry yogurt drink for lunch today and was afraid to try it, had it in my mind that it wasn't going to be good, but it was and also very filling. I'll also have to say that the microwavable choc cake and the peanut butter cookie are not my favorite deserts.
I am feeling better, almost over my resp crud, and walked 1 mile today. Plan on returning to water aerobics on Monday. Hope everyone has a great weekend.
Listed starting weight-267
Weight on day I started program-277.8
Weight today-271.6

Yes, I can't hardly believe it. My starting the program weight was 277.8,  and now this morning after 5 days it is 270.4. Down 7.4 lbs. I wish it would stay this way every week, then I would get to goal very quick but I am a realist and know it won't but I'm determined to stick with it. With a week like this first one, it definitely feels like worth the money. Adding some weight workout this morning.

Wow!!...well, today was the first time that I cheated on the portion serving. I had 2 times the recommeded serving of cooked vegetables. I had sauteed onions with broccoli & red peppers, marinated in soy sauce. Hmmm...it was so good!! I just couldn't resist the additional servings.

Bshan, I too was never much into sports or exercise, till one day I just went to gym. I had a fitness trainer show me around the different machines. The trainer can also sketch up an exercise program for you to begin. If you've never been to a gym, I would recommed doing a drop-in and see how you will like it.

Hi, my first week weighin is 7.8 lbs, I started on Monday, 10/29. I am adding exercise this week. I learned some things this week for me, weighing once per week is probably better for me. It is discouraging to see a weight gain when you know that you have been 100% on your food and water. And you know that you can't have gained 1.6 lbs in one day when you are eating less calories. Also, don't walk with 2 skinny women you have been walking a lot :), actually it was good for me as it picked up the pace for me, I just hope that I didn't hold them back too much. And don't tell your water aerobics instructor that the water is cold, or they will find a way to warm you up by kicking for 20  minutes. As you can probably tell, exercise is not something that has been a part of my normal life. Will try to form a new habit. Wishing a successful week for all of us this week.

Hey losers,  I've officially completed my first week.  My weigh in this week will be 218, that's a two pound loss. I'm annoyed that the loss is not bigger, but at least it's not a gain.  I have stayed on the plan and have not cheated.  The last diet I was on I lost 10lbs. the first week, though it was extremely hard for me to stick with.  I'm hoping that since the food is good (mostly), and the plan is easy to stick with, I will be able to stay with it until the end.  Also, I will be purchasing a new scale as the one I'm using doesn't work properly.  My husband tells me it fluctuates as much as 10 lbs. on him..(I hope that doesn't sound like a cop out).  Anyway, I read Galatians 6:9-And let us not grow weary in well doing, for in due season we will reap if we faint not (do not lose heart).  I am using this as motivation to keep me going, I hope it helps you too.

Well, its my second weigh-in today. While I was shopping at a mall, I went into a supermarket to weigh myself. I'm not sure if the scale worked or not, because it looked like a demo model and it looked like it was used a lot. It was the only scale around, so I weighed in at 280. I'm shocked at the results, because if the scale is right, it means I gained 2 pounds from last week. I will re-weigh myself at the gym tomorrow just to be sure.

The second week was really tough, as I did not go to the gym that often. As far as the eating goes, I did stick to the food, but I would have to admit that I did have extra servings from the recommended food guide. Although, I dont see how eating extra servings of vegetables can have an effect on my weight loss. I am a bit disappointed at the results, but I know for a fact that I am eating a lot better than I used to. So, I'm sure that counts for something. I guess I'll have to motivate myself to go to the gym more frequently.

Well done Bshan & Good luck to gmiller64!!!

Guess what losers....I just re-weighed myself at the gym on a proper working scale. My actual second week weigh in is...270 pounds. So, I'm down  another 8 pounds from last week, for a total of 15 pounds lost since I started the program on Oct 25th. I guess the moral of this story is to never again weigh yourself on a "Demo" scale at a supermarket.

Hey successfulnow, looks like I beat your weight loss from last week (7.4 pounds).....:)

That's a great weight loss this week, neilneur!! I'm sure you will beat me this week as I have not lost any this week. I'm trying to remain positive as I have been 100% on food, water and exercise this week. I'm having more energy at the end of the day and am able to kick it up a little bit at water aerobics in the morning. I also was able to resist the 5 bowls of candy our volunteer, Jelly Bean Jean, brought in today. I am thinking about taking next Friday off as we have our carryin Thanksgiving dinner at work. I think it would be too hard to stay on my program with all of that around. I'm trying to figure out how to handle Thanksgiving. My husband is on call that day and our kids won't be home so it is just us. I'm thinking about going to like Cracker Barrel, make good choices, & keep portions as we have learned. What do all of you plan to do about eating on Thanksgiving? Keep up the good work.

Hi Successfulnow,

I agree with you, that it is very hard to stay focused during the holidays. I think its ok to cheat on thanksgiving day or any other holidays, as long as the choices of food are reasonable. For example, I think its ok to have turkey, but without the stuffing or gravy. Instead of having creamy desserts and pastries, try some apples wedges dipped in caramel sauce. Its a fat-free dessert. Just a few days ago, my girlfriend (LR) and I decided to eat out for a change. We both ordered grilled chicken wrap, which had light mayo and cheese (Fat serving). Sometimes, I think plain ol' water gets boring, so I kicked it up a notch with some Crystal Light or home-made lemonade (sweetened w/ sweet n' low).

Speaking of the holidays, christmas is coming soon as well as a new year. I would probably think that it would be the toughest month to get through without cheating. As long as we make "reasonalbe" food choices, our weights should still come down. So with that being said, I have a "christmas challenge" for all the losers to lose atleast 15 pounds in the month of December. I think its very reasonable weight to lose. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas?
