Got to VENT

Ok. . .I must vent!!!  I am going to a church youth camp with my son Monday.  So, I was busy packing my NS food.  I had my food in our playroom closet and as I was packing I found that fire ants had gotten in our house and had found the Minestone Soup!!

I just received the soup on Wed. afternoon and they had chewed through the top of 3 cans!!  I am soooo ill.  I keep my house clean and free of all crumbs, so why in the world did they find a way in and head straight for my diet food?! Thankfully, the Minestrone Soup is the only thing I like in those cans that you add the water to. . .and I'm also thankful that I was packing to go on the trip or I might not have noticed until they had gotten in all my Minestone Soup cans.  I guess the paper lids just weren't much of a challenge for an apparently hungry little crew of ants.

I really hate fire ants!!!!  They are so small, yet can do so much damage and have a horrible bite!  Those of you up North should count your blessings tonight. . .if not for anything else but the fact you don't have these pests to deal with! ;)  I know a certain husband that will be spraying the outside of our house with ant poison tomorrow!  NOTHING is going to sabbatage my diet!!! Not even fire ants!!! ;)

I've heard that they cook up just fine-lend a lemon like flavor to any recipe! And, the extra protein will help to keep you feeling full all day.

Chocolate covered ants are a delicacy in some countries..... ;-) I wonder if you could put the canned stuff in ziplock bags to help. Sorry about the ants....dj

Ooh. Fire ants inside the house gives me the heebie jeebies. We live in SC - and I am from Alabama - so I know ALL about them. I'm just glad they did not make it into your suitcase!

I was just wondering if the ants could have gotten in there somehow during the shipping? Could you call and get replacements?

You are so funny, Alicia!! Glad you caught them ahead of time. Funny that they went for the diet food and not the sugar canister or something like that. Hope y'all have a great trip.

LOL--I am still laughing about everyone's comments! Thanks for cheering me up about the lost food. I think I'll do without the extra protein. . .but your comments about eating them had me nearly rolling on the floor laughing!!!

My husband had some strong ant poison he uses on our farm. He just finished spraying all outside the house and I sprayed Raid last night. I am praying this works! I've put the things that they might could chew through into pastic containers. Ziploc freezer bags might work, but I know they easily chew through sandwich bags. I definitely want to rest easy on my trip knowing my food is safe! ;) I think I'll call my hubby and make him check on it every day. Ha.

My kids were wondering if the diet food was going to make the ants get skinny. Haha Ree, I'm puzzled as to why they went for the Minestrone Soup instead of the candy bars? I guess it was easier to chew through. Glad they didn't find my chocolate though, I think I would have totally had a break down!!! I gotta have my chocolate!!!

Dottiemay, no, they definitely came from outside. My husband found an ant bed in our flower bed next to the wall they came through. I guess it only takes a tiny crack for ants to get in.

Alicia....I HATE those little things and I've never had them in the house. Always afraid of stepping on one of their hills though....they keep popping up all over no matter how much poison I put down! At least it was only three servings...it could have been worse! :-) Glad you chocolate is safe...!!!!

Alicia, this was one of the funniest blogs I’ve read yet! (Not so funny to you, I’m sure!) I join the I-hate-ants chorus. We have great big red ants in our yard, which I call fire ants, that build humongous hills and make the yard look really bad. Thankfully, they know their place and stay in the yard. I have tried pouring boiling water into the hills, and it seems to work until I look later and found they’ve just moved to a new spot. Grrrrr. (Those red ants would make a tasty treat indeed since they’re so large. Yuk.) I hope you have made your food safe. Have a good time at youth camp Monday!
