Now... What DO You DO?

Now... What DO You DO when you have left "heel" that's causing you to be limited with the amount of activity you need to be doing to raise your metabolism.  I called Dr. Hibbit's office this morning and secured a Dr's Apt. for this Thursday.  I'm totally afraid of "shots" and was able to get around it the last time I visited him with bursitus on the right hip. (Luckily, the therapy solved that problem.) But this is a totally different situation and I want to keep my mobility up.  At 62 it's important to remain active and heathy.  So... I'm twiddeling my thumbs trying to think of what I can do to remain active without hurting myself anymore than I have already.  It's been a "month" since the problem with my left heel has been going on... but steadily it's getting where it's just uncomfortable to walk, exericse or just do chores inside or outside of the house.  I'm within 29 pounds to my goal and I want to loose that weight so that things such as this doesn't happen in the future.  I'm upset with reason to be so...

So if you have some suggestions, etc.  Please let me know what you'd do in my place.  Thanks in advance, and have a God filled day! <')))><

Did you get a NS DVD with your first order? I don't know if you're on the senior plan or not and what comes with it. The women's basic DVD is a 2 mile walk and a 30 minute firming session that's done on the floor. Do you have an exercise bike, perhaps riding it won't bother your heel. Betti

Hi there! May I recommend water activity? Water aerobics in particular are a fun and low-impact way to burn those calories, and keep your joints and feet from being stressed.
I don't know if you belong to a gym already, but if not, you could look into your local Y for a low cost program, perhaps. It's a nice social activity, too.
Also seated exercise, such as bicycling (as Betti suggested), rowing, and weight bearing exercise would be helpful. Good luck!

I feel your pain! I have suffered from heel pain-plantar fascitis-off and on for years. I have had to change it up from my first love-walking-to water aerobics, swimming or the stationary bike. I have inserted Dr. Scholl's insoles into my shoes to help cushion myheel. It seems to help a little. ALso, make sure you have a good pair of walking/running shoes that offer excellent cushioning and support. I also wear special walkers padded socks with extra heel cushioning. Those are available at sports stores like Big 5 Sportign Goods. Good luck.

totally understand that pain limiting mobility circle. I had tendonitis/bursitis in both knees when i started ns, lost forty pounds just following the diet, then was able to take walks around here in the hills (SF, Calif). But added to that I used my ymca pool which was a life saver (lol) for cardio, it made so much difference in my weight loss ability. AND the added benefit of toning my squirrel wings, flapper thighs and jelly belly...:)
ok ok but it did make you smile, yes?
orthodic inserts in good walking shoes was a also key for myself.
I hope your pain lessens soon,
big hugs,
Niter

Thanks! I am currently using a tennis ball and rolling my foot over it to strengthen the arch. I'm also icing my food and really babying it until I visit the "bone doctor" Thursday! Thanks again for all of your helpful suggestions. <')))><

My bone specialist checked my heel out this morning and I do have the "planters faci-itus" that I'd suspected before going after the comments from here as well as the chat room and from the internet info I've been gathering. So it's not something I'll have to contend with forever, but I will address now and begin doing the stretching exercises that will help my heel to heal and my calves and achellies tendons to stretch to rid the problem. I'll be using the wall to stretch one calf out at a time with my foot planted securly on the floor one at a time for 20 seconds each for about 5 minutes. Then going to a stool/fireplace or some step and stretching both calves by stepping on the hearth leaving a portion on my heels to dip below... Another exercise will be to use a tennis ball while I'm sitting or standing and flexing my foot over it as it rolls back and forth. I'll ice the heels after the stretching exercises and repeat when I get up in the morning and before I go to bed at night. Yes, I'm to return for a follow-up in 6 weeks. Hopefully I'll be dismissed... at least I'm counting on it. Thanks again for the timely support. Love ya, Maritom <')))><
