Michelle's Journey to a Healthy Life
Tracking food on NS vs other places
I just finished my first day of NS food..... well, I still have my snack/dessert to eat.

I am VERY unimpressed with the online tracking system for the food. I wish there was a better list of fruits/veggies & a better way to find them. Tonight, with dinner, I had some celery. I was going to count it as a vegetable serving, but couldn't find it anywhere. Then, I clicked on the "Salad or Fruit" and celery showed up on that list. If I counted my celery there, I can't count the strawberries I had there. I couldn't find celery on the other list to add it to "add other food" either.

I think I'm just going to start writing down my food for the day or using SparkPeople or some other site that does better at the grocery store items & then just end up typing in all the info for the NS food on the other site.

Overall, though, I had a great first day on the program. I'm stuffed & haven't even had my dessert yet. We had our Wii in the pawn shop for the last 6 months or so & finally got it out last night. I tried to do the Wii Fit today & only ended up doing 15 minutes before my legs started cramping & I was tired out. At least 15 minutes is better than nothing, but I really need to make sure I work at it daily to get better at it.

it's much easier if you just go to the "other foods" tab and do a search for it, even if it's on the recommended lists.

I tried that & nothing came up. Maybe it was just not working right on my computer or browser or something. I could see things in the recommended section, but any time I went to the "other" section, it wouldn't pull up anything.

Maybe something was just wrong with my computer before because I just tried it again now in the "other" section & things came up just fine. Guess I'll have to play with it some more. If it gets stuck often, I'll go to a different method though.

Thanks!

Seems there's a problem with the NS food database. I was actually getting "NS Error" messages the last couple days so at least I know it's wasn't my computer, it was theirs. There's a thread on one of the discussion boards requesting a fix to the problem. I've been on the program since April 15 and this is the first problem I've encountered with the online tracking. It really is a terrific tool.

Welcome and good luck!

the easiest thing to do is just write it in the meal planner booklet they sent you. Everything is right there in the book. What to eat and when!

I like the computer tracking system. I've been using it for about a month now and am getting more comfortable with it. I have added some of my own foods to the "define a new food" list. It has made me very aware of the total calories I'm eating each day and how it affects my weight loss. The more I stay with the program, I'm learning what type of portions and food I should be eating. Whether you write it down or use the computer system, you will learn what portions will work for you. Good luck and hang in there. I was right where you are about a month ago.

DH and I faithfully use the NS online system - it's like magic for us, so I encourage you to keep trying.
As to the leg cramps...be sure you're drinking all the recommended water and getting enough potassium (bananas, broccoli are good sources) and you might even take a supplement.

I'd also suggest that you start out your exercise program gently, with some basic walking routine, or at least incorporate daily walking into whatever regular exercise you prefer.

SO glad to hear that you liked the food and will keep sending you positive energy for success on the program.

Peace -

I do not use the online system. I use the Meal Planner. That way I do not have to sign in, etc. I just keep it available and use it all the time. Even after 9 months on the program (having lost 95lbs) I still go to the Meal planner and use it every day of my life.

Cheers on you,

Some fruits you think are fruits are really veges and some veges are fruits. Sounds crazy but a tomato we all think is a vege is actually a fruit LOL. Just keep working hard at it. Wii is kinda of neat i'm actually younger than my daughter when it gives your physical age according to the game and she's a black belt in Shotakon Martial arts. Very physically fit and only 16. If you had kids yourself they will enjoy doing wii fitness with you. Have fun with it.
