The way I do

I’ve received countless emails in the past couple of days asking what the secret to my success is. At first I was dumbfounded by the people asking me this! I received the emails on the NS website. My secret is simple and easy to do. Stick with the program and exercise. It’s that simple.

When I first started with NS, I knew I needed to get a refresher course on how I should be eating. I took the approach to NS as I would take a class in college. I’ve never viewed it as a diet or the sole reason for doing it to loose weight. I wanted to change my attitude, the way I viewed my relationship with food and what’s going to be the optimal way for me to eat and be healthy. The exercise part comes easy for me. I’ve always liked to exercise and be active. It makes me feel good, really good. I like to sweat and feel my muscles tremble after a good workout.

NS works and it takes time for it to work. I read blogs and emails all the time saying they’ve been on the program for a week or so and they’ve only lost 2 pounds! People, you lost weight! Granted it may not be as much as you want, but you still lost. The other issue I hear a lot about is the food and the way it tastes. It’s a program designed to teach you how to change your relationship with food and get control of your portion sizes, NS doesn’t claim to be gourmet food or five star cuisine. The food tastes good in the beginning because it’s new. The inverse holds true as well. The food may not taste very good to start, but you have to make some concessions to get to your goal. If it were that easy, you wouldn’t have ordered the food to start.

The program gets easier to follow and adhere to the longer you stay with it. It gets to the point where you don’t fear going out to eat or attending a party where you know there’s going to be tempting treats. You’ll get to the point where you’ll just be able to enjoy the company of those around you and graciously smile as people tell you how good you look.

You've got it right Roc.  Although I was one of those who believed I should be losing at least 2 pounds a week and neglected the fact that your body has to adjust to the new habits.  Once your body adjusts and realizes ... we are losing weight ... "get used to it", then it comes.

Good post and thank you as always for the insight.

Short, sweet, to the point, and SO TRUE!!!!  How did I lose 73#?...I used NS & I stuck to the plan!  I didn't doctor the food to make it taste better. Sometimes, I had a food that I didn't care for, but I ate it...then didn't order it again.
You have learned and I'm learning in the same way that we EAT to LIVE...not LIVE to EAT.  Family get-togethers are so fun to spend more time visiting, and much less time stuffing our faces then sleeping in the chair because we're too full to move!!!!
Congrats again on your success...& thanks for posting this!
You're great.

Should we be calling you Professor Roc now?  Keep up the good work.  Keep avoiding pancakes!

By the way, during my week of "NS vacation" last week, I had pancakes and had the thought that you ( and a lot of others here) would have kicked my butt for eating them.  But they were good and I deserved a little celebration for 3+ months of being good.  Now I am back to 100% and ready to push on.

Have a good one.

I could'nt have stated it better,  i only hope that people will read and understand that this is a choice and lifestyle change that will take great effort on our part to overcome and conquer. We've been afforded a wonderful tool with NS but we have to do the work, being faithful to the program, excercize and most importantly renewing our mindset where food is concerned.I hear so often on the blog that "i'm not losing the weight as fast as I'd hoped But i've been cheating and not sticking to the progam" well what do you expect, there's no MAGIC in losing weight just determination and hard work.Break the old habits and get with the program OR stop complaining!!!

Roc, Amen to everything you said.  I keep telling people who are new and unsure about the probram that if they stick to the program, its a no brainer, you are gong to lose weight.  I have been on the plan since Novermber and have lost 59 lbs!  Thats 59 never to be seen again lbs.  I feel great, look a whole lot better and have such a positive attitude towards everything!  I just wanted to say congrats on your success and keep it up (even though we both know that you will!)
