Day 130

I took some advice from members that have been doing this a while. I was having a problem with severe hunger pains and wanting to go on burger runs at 2 AM. I moved my dinner back a couple of hours and my dessert too. This helped with the hunger and the cravings a little bit. I was good and didn't go out for food. What’s keeping me driven to stay on track is the promise that I made to myself. I set clear, concrete goals that are attainable. I feel that I also have stake in this community. I hope to be a bigger part of that, and I don't want to let myself and all the people that have supported me down. I know I don't have to answer to anyone but myself, but it’s the accountability that can't suffer.

It was my choice to get to my current weight and it’s going to be my choice to get to my goal weight. I read lots of the blogs, just to get the pulse on the community and see if I can help. I read a lot of negative things about how the food sucks or choices are not what they thought they were. I want to offer help and positive feedback, but sometimes I want to email the nay-sayers with an ear-full. It was your choices that led you to where you’re at right now. Not one person was forced to eat and let themselves go. Yes, there are exceptions to that, but majority of the people that complain or give negative feedback are the ones that are looking for an easy way out. NS may market how easy and great it is to loose weight with their program, but the key ingredient is you! You are the one that has to make the right choice and put forth the effort to achieve your goals. NS is NOT gourmet food. The food has one purpose, its fuel for your body, designed to shed weight. It’s not a "supper club" or claiming to be the best food you've ever eaten. You will have to sacrifice some taste, portion sizes, and variety. That’s the deal. Your bad decision making and poor habits got you fat, overweight, and lowered your self-esteem. NS has offered you a tool to change all of that. They also have set up this community to support you and guide you to get to your goals.

I love to cook, eat and eat some more. It has been a big change for me to stop eating the way I was. I'm making those lifestyle changes so that I am a healthy person and with time, I know that I can achieve all those goals.  I'm not looking to get ripped or compete in a fitness competition, I just want to lower my BP and drop some unhealthy fat.

Many people, including myself, throw up road blocks as excuses to keep them from reaching goals. Just know that you are a driving force that breaks down barriers and pushes forward. Whine and complain all you want, but it’s your decision to change.

What a terrific blog. I think that sums up the perfect attitude to have on this program. There is no magic pill or program to fix your personal screwups. It's like the old saying, "Nothing worth doing is ever easy." Yes, NS makes things alot easier, but it takes commitment and hard work to reach your goals. Thank you for posting this. :0)

Once again, thank you for saying what I've been thinking.  The negativity will never ever take a person where they want to go!  It takes a whole lot of determination to make NS work, and you are so "Right ON" when you put "YOU" at the forefront of the entire program.
Thanks, Roc.

Another wonderful blog, Roc!!
I agree negativity isn't what will get you where you want to be.  I know after being on this for over 6 months, the times when I have felt a little sorry for myself or hopeless is when I didn't do as well.  Being positive and trying to maintain a positive attitude about it all is what gets you where you want to be.
It's difficult for all of us, but we have to keep trying and remember we are doing this for a longer healthier life!!

YOU GO ROC!  YOU SAID ALL THE THINGS I HAVE FELT LIKE SAYING WHEN I READ A NEGATIVE BLOG.  I JUST TOLD SOMEONE THE OTHER DAY THAT NS IS NOT GOING TO LOSE YOUR WEIGHT FOR YOU.  THEY HAVE GIVEN YOU A TOOL TO USE FOR THAT.  YOU ARE THE KEY IN THIS EQUASION.  YOU CAN GRIPE AND GRUMBLE ALL DAY ABOUT THE FOOD.  IF YOU DON'T LIKE SOMETHING, DON'T ORDER IT AGAIN.  THAT IS WHAT CHOICE IS ALL ABOUT.

IF YOU KEEP A NEGATIVE ATTITUDE, YOU ARE SETTING YOURSELF UP FOR FAILURE.  NEGATIVITY BREEDS FAILURE.  POSITIVITY BREEDS SUCCESS.  SO THIS IS YOUR CHOICE.  IF YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO MAKE THE DECISION TO DO WHAT IT TAKES, HARD WORK, POSITIVE ATTITUDE AND SACRIFICES.  THEN YOU MIGHT JUST AS WELL SAVE YOURSELF A LOT OF AGGRIVATION AND FRUSTRATION AND MONEY AND QUIT RIGHT NOW.  NS IS NOT A MAGIC PILL OR SOLUTION.  IT WILL WORK IF YOU WILL WORK WITH IT.

THANKS,  MARTY

Hello all,
I am Steve, I just ordered my food today for the first time. I have always had a weight problem from when I can remember. I am a firefighter and lost weight to get on the job. over the last 20 years the weight has slowly gone back on. Well the last 7 years it wasn't so slow. I have gained 30lbs in that time. 40lbs total from my hire weight.  So I am actually looking to drop 50lbs total.

I was also off duty due to a back injury, I am slowly getting back on duty and able to do some light working out.

I am worried about the late night snacks and going out to eat. I eat out a lot. anyone have suggestions about going out for meals? (just don't go out?)

Thanks for your import and support ahead of time.

This is my first time ever reading a blog on ns.com. I have to say, I'm glad I did. I was on NS for about 6months in 2007 and lost a little over 40# then I decided that I could do it on my own. I did for a while, I didn't loose any but I maintained (with in a 5 lb range) for nearly a year. 2 weeks ago my 16's were starting to fit a little tight and I felt bloated so I decided to watch and keep track of everything I was eating. I maintain 1500 to 1700 of healthy calaroies for 6 days and in that 6 day period I gained 9lbs.. now with in just 2 weeks I have gained 15lbs total. Yes all, there is no exageration or miss typings here... 2 weeks and 15 pounds up... I can't even stand to look at myself in the mirror. SOOO I decided to go back on Nutri System. I'm waiting for my shipment to come in now. Let's all pray that this will do the trick as it did before and that there is nothing medically wrong with me. As far as the taste and ease of the program, I think it's great. Almost every meal I prepare I just heat it up on the stove and add spices or stir fry with some vegies. First thing to do with all the meals, is when you go to make them, GET RID of the BOX.... put it in a pan and heat it up, then your mind tells you "Self, you just cooked that food, it's not some pre made stuff".. then you automatically start to enjoy it better because you feel like you worked on it to prepare it. Just a note to help. Anyway, I will pray that each of you will meet your goal and enjoy your trip on the road to a healthier life. PS.. when I said size 16, remember that I am 5'11". I am happy with a 16...12 is my life goal so that's not far off. OH..and I had to run to the thrift store and buy a few pairs of 18's to get me through the next few weeks.  :(

I liked your blog, it made sense.  I have been on NS for over 2 months now and I really did have several bad days so far and probably a few negative blogs myself. I'm human and had gripes from time to time, but I stuck with it through all the hunger, food I didn't like, weeks of no weight loss.  I am happier now and my blogs reflect that (yea!).  Oh, and so does the scale.

"NS is NOT gourmet food. The food has one purpose, its fuel for your body, designed to shed weight".   I like the way you put that.

Good luck to you and reaching your goal weight....Wish me luck too....

Wow! congrats on all your progress.  I don't visit this area of the website much, so when you mention that people complain about the food. . . quite frankly I a bit surprised -- my only comment is that I have to have binoculars on when I eat.  But that is what I signed-up for -- so I keep my binoculars  handy.  Anyway, I have gotten a bit creative and one of my favorites recipes to "fill-up" with is a cabbage and celery stir fry - my evening meals (as my veg portion) .  All it is is chopped cabbbage, sliced or chopped celery, and some Trader Joe's  21 spice salute  (you can use other spices too, just make sure NO salt).  Just spray a pan with Pam (or facsimile), and on medium heat stir fry with a small splash of rice vinegar (to taste).  Measurements are like my mom use to be "ad lib".

Yes, NS is a great tool for a lifestyle change.  I'm succeeding and it feels great!

Happy Healthiness to all

Sometimes I look at my problems in life as a storm.  Storms  (problems) come and storms go.  If we hang in there together this storm in our life will pass too.  The sun will peak out from the clouds and shine and we will all be closer at reaching our goal weight.  Instead of foucusing on every little  problem and letting it be our excuse to quit this is the time join hands and beat the buldging battle so what maybe you didn't loose weight this week its not the end of the world take it one storm at a time.  We are fighters, strong surviors, we won't  give up.  Not this time!!!

Goog blog Roc. I really agree. Before I actually got my shipment about a month ago I was reading all over the internet how people hated the food and a lot of other bull. But when I got my 28-Day Supply I was so excited I didn't care what the food tasted like. And the food doesn't even taste as horrible as everyone was saying. My mother said that once you start eating the food you'll get used to it and it won't matter anymore. I actually crave some of the food now lol. And when I do crave a real pizza slice I just get busy doing something else like work or whatever to get my mind off of it. The most important thing is to stay positive like you said or else how are you going to enjoy the journey? Think about it people.

Please do keep up the good attitude, this system works, and it's not bad tasting, just need to find your groove. I do like to eat, obviously that's why I'm here...but I have found that spacing my meals into two parts keeps me eating quite often, food digests better, and I have more energy!I started NS to achieve weight loss without the ability to exercise due to knee problems. I did drop over 20 lbs so far and the knees feel great! I'm able to get out and walk more, my work is something I actually look forward to because I don't feel pain at the end of the day. I'm truely grateful for the ability to experience this system, and find encouragment everywhere.
I look forward to reading all your blogs, especially when I need some smiles and encouragment!

socalmedic7,
Prepare enough food for a shift and a half prior to going on shift and take it with you.  Take all of the food, including the incidentals that NS does not supply.  My office is 50 miles one way from my house, so it is either take it with me or eat out.  Hell you could probably fit an entire shift worth of food in those cargo pants you firefighters wear and you wouldn't even need a lunch-box.LOL

I forgot something.  You'll be amazed at the sense of accomplishment you will have when you say no thanks to someone when they ask if you want to go grab something to eat.  I imagine that sounds stupid, but it is almost like I am unstoppable (in losing weight) now.  If you do go out to eat stick with NS's recommendations and get back on track the next chance you get.  It's like Roc said (paraphrase), we made choices to gain the weight and we are going to have to make choices to lose the weight.

Great post.  I agree with almost everything you said.  NS is an amazing system that WILL help you lose the weight fast. But you have to be willing to stick with the program.  It seems you are doing very well and keep up the good work.  I too have lost a bit of weight 30.4 lbs so far.  And one driving factor for me is to watch the numbers go down on the scale almost daily.  Just keep at it and you will be at your goal weight in time.  Try not to read to much into the nay sayers, its like anything else in life surround yourself with good solid people and be posistive.  Surrounding yourself with people that are doing the same thing as you and or have done the same will only drive you to do better even if you dont realize it.  Your post just drives me that much more.

Roc and group,
I have just started NS last week. I started with a realistic attitude. I knew that the food I was ordering was not going to be as much (quantity) as what I was accustomed to eating.  The reason I am on this program is because of my inability to choose proper portion sizes.  I also knew that the taste of the food was not going to be as delicious as all of the delightful Italian dishes that I overindulged in. That was a no brainer.  That luscious fat-laden food is what was slowly killing me.
I was surprised to find my first negative blog last weekend while I was waiting for my food to arrive.  The thought that went through my head was - I should not be surprised because there are people in this world who are negative about everything ! Also many people look for the easy way out and are not willing to give up certain things as they work toward a goal. Weight loss is not an easy task but I know that it is worth the hard work and effort and I can tell from all of you that you beilieve that it is worth the sacrifice as well.
Roc, thank you for putting into words the feelings that so many of us have.  Onward !  J :-)

thanks, roc3! i just finished my lunch on day 2. my feelings toward this commitment i've made are exactly the same as yours. i'm not looking to be a movie star, i just want to be able to play with my kids without getting winded walking to the playground or be able to fit comfortably in a seat at the ball game. i made the choice to get this heavy, now i'm making the choice to lose the weight.

like i said this is only my 2nd day, and, all things considered, the food actually is pretty good. i decided to begin with the foods i liked the least (not that there's many) so i wouldn't be stuck with them at the end of the month and wouldn't have a choice. surprisingly,i've found even my least favorites to be pretty good and actually better than the vast majority of processed foods i've had.

btw, one thing i noticed on my first day was that i didn't have a banging headache like i've had with other diets. everything's balanced out nutritionally, so you're not starving your body or throwing it into shock. you're just getting a balanced diet at the proper portion size. good luck everyone and thanks again, roc3!

Congratulations, I have been back on the plan a little over a month now. I am down 32 lbs as of this morning. You are right about the choices that are being made, and the responsibility for them. You noticed I said BACK on the plan. Well I'm refering to being on 20 years ago. The method has changed since then but the situation is the same. When I first participated was when I reached 275 lbs and knew I had to do something. I have always been "Big Boned" Ha. Ha. but I was to close to 300 for comfort. I went on the plan and if I wasn't at work or asleep I was moving some how. I lost 62 lbs in a bout 8 weeks. It was amusing to see reactions from people ranging from not recognizing me to cornering me and asking if I was ill or depressed. Well the years went by and I went up and down but never going back down to where I was before going up again. About 3 years ago I was at 285 and joked with my wife about the heaviest I had ever been. She was not amused, and to make it worse I commented on how I should go ahead and hit 300 just to see what it's like and so I could say I had. Well I wound up changing jobs and started what I nicknamed the Internet Diet. WWW.  Wrong food, Wrong place, Wrong time or What I was eating, Where I was eating it, and When I was doing it. Long story short I sailed by 300 and finally got a grip at 372!!! The real eye opener was photos( which I usually never allow) at my sons wedding. I started making some changes on my own starting with the job. I got back down in the 340 range but seemed to stagnate. My wife pointed out that the only thing that had worked was probably the only thing that would work again. So here I am again. My daughter is getting married in June of 2009 My goal is to not be the same guy in those pictures that I was in the last ones. That will give my kids something to talk about long after I'm gone when they compare. People who talk about the food are looking for a reason not to succeed. There are to many options not to find something you like. Funny thing is that 20 years ago when I got off of the plan I still found myself craving certain foods and was a little disappointed to find out they are no longer available. As far as the cost goes my eating expenses are easily half what they were prior to the plan. My goals are simple. and will be constantly changing. My first was to be within 10 lbs of 300 by Tax day. Or at 30something. That is looking attainable. My next goal will be set after that happens and will be a small amount by a realistic date. My ultimate goal is to look 5 to 10 years younger than I did at the last wedding for the next wedding.   Best of luck and continued success for you and everyone else trying to make a difference for what ever their reason is. For the reason must be your own to achieve.                                                                   Luggin in Kansas

I haven't gone into chatrooms.  Don't listen to them and just take it one day at a time.  I remember when I first started and thinking wow, I have 50 lbs to lose.  I told myself to take it one day at a time and the days will add up.  You can not stop time.  I have had a couple of hiccups (hunger pains) but have lost 22 lbs in 6 weeks.  Don't get me wrong it is tough going to the movies with my duaghters and not being able to eat popcorn, but I tell myself to look for alternative to fuel my body at the time (desert snack) and enjoy the experience.  My 2 cents.

I read your blog 3xs and each time the bitter pill didn't get any easier to swallow. I have been on NS going on 7 week and lost 38# by week 6. Last week end I went to my cabin for 4 days and willingly came off so I could enjoy myself. I have learned I am a compulsive eater. I couldn't control myself. I ate what I wanted, including a box of girl scout cookies in one sitting. I haven't learned anything in 7 weeks. I am truly hoping, no praying that by the time this is over I will have good judgement, pride and will power. When I got home I weighed myself this a.m. and gained 3 pounds. Doesn't sound llike much but when I check my weigh ins this has put me back to where I was in March. I also think the same as you when I read so many negative commentaries, where do all of us think this fat came from? No one is feeding US but ourselves. No one is picking on us, no one picked me out of a crowd and said, "its Cindee's turn to be fat" NO ONE but Cindee did this. I am angry with myself. I have so many people pulling for me and feel shame, like what a joke people will think of me. Before this week end I use to stay focus by telling myself and others I won't cheat because I remember all to well what it felt like when my ex husband cheated on me so why would I want to hurt myself that way. My only redemption is I went off on purpose, not the other way around by eating my meal plan and then sneaking the junk. Thank  you for perverbailly kicking my a$$ back into reality.

I love this post.

I have been lazy about staying connected to the NS community. I got off line recently when I went on a cruise. and I have just been Ho-hum about the whole process since. You motivated me to go whole heartedly again. I have continued to lose weight but I could have lost more. I stopped exercising, a big no no.

In every endever it  is our decision to make positive or negative choices, to be committed or not.

Thank you for reminding me of why I am doing this

Amen!!!  Let me just say this....I lost 60 pounds last year using NS (so far I have kept it off - 6 months and counting).  I also exercised (and still do...religiously)!!!  I took it upon myself to get myself healthy.  I used NS to teach me how to eat properly.  Changing your lifestyle is not an easy task...It takes determination and committment.  So, to all of you NSers, hold yourselves accountable.  Only you can change you!!!

You have done so well. I have been on the diet only two weeks. Been doing what I thought I was surpose to do. Havne't been able to excercise due to a broken foot. Anyway I lost a pound the first week and then gained 1/2 pound back the next. Called the counciler and she tells me I have to eat everything on the menu planner. Thats salad every lunch etc. I feel like I have wasted the last two weeks. Do you have any suggestions concerning the fact that you have to eat excatly what they say. Have you found this to be true? Even if you do not want the salad etc.

Thanks,
marie

Hi Roc - You are my first blog.  I've been on 1 month and lost 8 lbs.  Not a lot, but as my girlfriend says, try carrying 8 lbs of potatoes around the store when I'm shopping!!

I can't figure it out.  Some folks say the food isn't interesting enough.  (But it is healthy and it does work)  Do they mean spicy?  Did someone break their wrists?  They can't add spices?  A little salsa?  Indian spices in veg.  Chilis in the cooking oil or stock?  Ginger?  Stop complaining, those are only excuses and everyone sees right through them.  LOL.  People who are bored are boring.

I'm interested to keep it interesting!

Great comments...It takes one person's will to make it happen and that's the guy in the mirror.  I started back in August and I'm just about at my goal.  Just in time for the golf season, a 20 month old grandchild and SUMMER!  The system works...it's effortless.

I have been on NS for only a month.  I have lost 25 lbs and am thrilled, but as it seems like all the other bloggers, I too have those "bad" days.  Yesterday was one, I am still trying to figure out what really caused me to over do on the food, but I am back on track today.  I have diabetese and my sugars have been great since being on the plan.  I agree that some of the food is not great, but I make sure not to pick those items the next time around.  The exercise for me is the thing that I have to work on the most.  I am used to the routine of the meals and snacks and I like NS to help with that structure which I need.  It is inspiring to read these good positive blogs.  Keep up the work.

I`ve also incorporated a weight training regiment in my daily life change.  My BP is normal and my colesterol level is within the normal bands..Thank you NS. The change is becoming radical to say the least.....

HEY ROC - YOU ARE DOING GREAT, WHAT AN INSPIRATION TO THOSE OF US TRYING TO FIND A KEY, A LIFELINE IN DESPERATE TIMES.
I TRY AND REMEMBER THIS ISN'T JUST SOME 'HOLD ON AND GET THROUGH IT, GET THE WEIGHT OFF AND YOU CAN GO BACK TO THE TROUGH". I'M STUDYING THESE LITTLE MEALS AND WHAT FRUITS AND VEGTABLES I'LL BE BRINGING WITH ME EVERY DAY AFTER NUTRISYSTEM. WE'VE ALL GOTTA MODIFY OUT PERSONAL WORLDS A LITTLE, SO THAT THINGS WON'T END UP FOR US LIKE THEY DID BEFORE NS.
I'M KIND OF HAVING A DOWN PERIOD MYSELF. BUT YOU GOTTA NOT DWELL ON IT, JUST MAKE YOUR LIST AND EAT YOUR FOOD WHEN YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO.
HAPPY NEW YOU/YEAR TO EVERYONE. TERESA

i couldnt agree more!!! people are always acting like nutrisystem should be a quick fix. they get upset when they find out that they don't get to eat gourmet food and huge portions! i'm not sure what people expect!! weight loss is hard work and a huge challenge! unless people are willing to commit 100%, they will never lose weight!! good luck to you, it sounds like you have a great attitude!!
