In the realm of the chat room

I decided to try something a little different last night and check out the chat rooms. I’ve been there before, but not for any extended period of time. As of late, my blogs haven’t been up to par and haven’t had as much heart as I like. I thought I might be inspired from the chat room, trying to get a pulse on the community.

Needless to say, it was different. My experience wasn’t great, but it wasn’t bad either. It’s extremely fast paced, dominated by women and felt a little “clicky” to me. I was received with open arms by a few and made to feel out of place by a couple of others. I guess there are unwritten rules not to mention certain topics or asking “senior” member’s questions. I guess it’s going to take a little more time to get used to it or even try different times of days. Overall, I thought it was interesting to hear some other points of views and just sit idle reading conversations between the groups. For the accepted ones, it was a great place, almost like Cheers. When certain people would log on, the whole group would welcome them and it seemed like the topics would be dictated by them. Pretty cool I thought.

I guess my forte is blogging. I can express myself and thoughts in a more concise manner that conveys my message to a broader audience. Please don’t think I’m bagging on the chat rooms, I liked it. I just wanted to share my experience with the rest of you. There are many tools and ways to gain support as you travel along the path of weight loss. The main point is to get involved, join the chat room, write a blog, maybe hit the boards for a discussion. Doing it alone what get you very far, support and comradery goes a long way!

I, too, am much more comfortable with the blog pages, rather than the chat room.  I guess I'm too old to try to "play catch up" with the "texting" type initials, etc.  But, it's fun to try every once in a while.
Love to read your stuff.  Please, don't stop!

Keep blogging Roc!!  I love to read your blogs.
I did chat rooms several years ago in other places and found them to be clicky.  It's a media of its' own and I don't fit in myself.
I love the blogging.  I have been more involved here then anywhere before!

Cheryl

Keep on bloggin Roc. I am not a blogger at this time but really enjoy reading your blog. Another reason is because I like your name ROC. My dog's name is ROCCO and he is the best. Keep us smiling on the good blogs you write and hope to read more soon. I lurk sometimes in the forums and even have written a few times and agree with what you said.

Hi Roc:
Thanks for the feedback on chat rooms.  Funny I saw this because I thought about trying a chat room last week however, I never did.   may still give it a try just to see what type of activity is going on there and if questions are answered there as well.  We do appreciate your blogs, all manner of blogs and topics and they are interesting.  Don't feel like you always have to be "on" sometimes you can just say, "hey, I'm doing okay."

Have a great day Roc.

Me too, Roc...I felt very left out in the chat rooms...I wanted to shout>>...."Hey, I am a senior member, lost some weight, know the ropes"...so I will remain here in the safety net of the blogs, with all my friends....I like it better here anyway....Have a great day!!

I started out with the chat rooms in my first few weeks on plan.  Tough to get a sense of what all is going on.  In the Blogs you get a truer sense of what people are really going through and that helps me out more.  I think I have only gone to the chats 2-3 times in the last two months.

We'd rather have you here anyway.

I like the blogs too.  The chat room reminds me of Los Angeles' "Love you, mean it" mentallity and its the furthest from the truth!  The people here seem to have more depth~  I can relate with a lot of really cool people here!  Have a good one, Natalie

STAY WITH THE BLOGS ROC.  WE LIKE YOU HERE.  I HAVE NEVER TRIED THE CHAT ROOMS.  HAVEN'T HEARD MUCH POSITIVE REMARKS ABOUT THEM.  THINK I WILL STAY WITH THE BLOGS.  I HAVE SOME REALLY GOOD FRIENDS HERE.  DON'T DO THE CLICKISH THING VERY WELL.  THATS ONE OF THE THINGS THAT DROVE ME AWAY FROM WEIGHT WATCHERS.

GOD BLESS!!
