BÜRGERMEISTER
Okay, I just had to share last night's experience with the "flame broiled burger", which I had seen in a couple of NS ads and was anticipating all day.  After quite a bit of preparation and embellishment... IT WAS FABULOUS!  Here's what I did to it:

First, I had a whole wheat roll from Publix that was definitely bigger than "small", so I ate a half a carb serving at breakfast to compensate.  Then I switched my morning snack "dairy" serving with my dinner "fat" serving, so I could add cheese to the burger.

Before making the burger, I sauteed just a few strips of vidalia onion using Pam.  As I rehydrated the burger, I toasted the roll very lightly.  Put a tiny amount of mustard & ketchup on the bottom, then the burger, then a single slice of non-fat American cheese (only 2/3 serving), then the sauteed onions, a little more ketchup, then two thin slices of tomato and a little lettuce.

I cannot tell you how marvelous this was-- better than fast food, and 1000 times healthier.  I ate it very slowly, savoring every bite, and it felt like a ton of food.  I did have a dill pickle slice on the side (probably too much salt), which completed the experience.  Any feeling of deprivation I might have harbored about dieting evaporated while enjoying this burger.  Obviously I'm still thinking about it the next morning...

This experience just reinforced my belief that you CAN enjoy the Nutrisystem food plan, and ultimately, a permanent change to much healthier eating habits, without sacrificing wonderful taste experiences at mealtimes.

I love the burger too. That reminds me....to bring one along to my parents' place this weekend, in case they grill while we are there! Thanks for the reminder. I don't eat the burger super often, but when I do I LOVE it.

Strange, isn't it? How that burger just springs to life with a soaking in hot water. Love the burger and prepare mine pretty much the same way. Really enjoy adding a nice side of coleslaw. Shred some green/purple cabbage and dress with some fat-free ranch dressing (or a little vinegar dressing) and a sprinkle of celery seed. A serving of raw cabbage is one cup....I usually can't eat it all along with the burger!

I agree with the tasty burger! Your post will give others the push to try it, as it can seem odd to have to reconstitute a burger. It's worth it!

You also can find low-carb whole wheat pitas at Publix that have fewer calories, for a change. I also like to mix things up earlier on to allow for reduced fat co-jack cheese (about 70 calories/slice), also at Publix (in the deli).

Yum!

Thanks for the tips about the Arnold's flat rolls and the Publix lo-carb pita bread. I will try them! My wife already uses Mission jalapeƱo cheddar wraps, but they're not "bready" enough for me (and she doesn't get extra carbs on her NS plan). We sometimes use the Alpine Lace reduced fat co-jack cheese, alternating with the slightly more rubbery non-fat cheeses.

Also love the coleslaw idea, and I have my Beano ready LOL...
