FREAKY FRIDAY CHALLENGE**** THIS IS MY STORY FOR YOU. ****

Here is my story. I am a Nutrisystem Success Story and my name is Marie.

On July 28th 2007, I picked up the phone and ordered Nutrisystem for the very first time.  I was overweight.  After many weeks of thinking I needed to do something, I decide "What the heck can I lose if it doesn't work?" a few dollars or a few pounds.  So I picked up the phone to do one more diet.  That's all it was going to be for me, one more diet.  Sure I could always follow a diet, but in time the weight always comes back.  The man on the other end of the phone asked me how much I wanted to lose and how much did I weighed?  Boy was that a shock!  I didn't know.  You know the more overweight you get the less you care what that scale says. What did it matter?  I put him on hold and weighed myself and thought about what I would like to weigh (a guess from the past).  I didn't want to tell him but I thought who cares he doesn't know me. I got back on the phone and told him I weighed 177lbs and wanted to lose 50lbs.  50 pounds!!!  I couldn't believe I was 50 lbs over weight!  Me the girl that just 13 years earlier was a size 2 and now was a size 14 stretch.  The girl that was a ballet dancer for 12 years as a young women.  That was me.  The women who almost died two years earlier because of sickness and pain.  The women who let herself go and didn't do much of anything but work anymore.  That was me. The women with no energy, hardly walking, swelling in my lower and upper back.  Couldn't get in the tub because my knees hurt too bad to get out.  Yes, that was me.  The one who tried to get on her knees to pray but instead only felt pain shooting up them.

August 3rd 2007 I started Nutrisystem.  Yes I too wondered if it would work but one thing about me is that I will jump right in when I make up my mind to.  This was the day to change the way I would eat at least for 12 weeks. I had worked myself up to a tight size 14 stretch pants.  I decided that if I was going to do it, that it would take 12 weeks to change.  I had heard before that it takes 12 weeks to form a habit.  I knew from my past that in 12 weeks I could change my body by exercising and look great. I was heavier now than I ever had been in my life. On Aug. 10th, I had lost 6lbs my first week.  OK, no big deal I thought.  I was on many diets before and lost more than that in the first three days. The food was good but boy would I ever get use to those small portions and the gas. The second week I lost only 1.5 lbs and that was not fast enough for me but I was committed to give Nutrisystem a chance.  Week 3 I lost 2.5 lbs and week 4 I lost another 2.5lbs.  OK so I was losing, but not really happy with the small portions and the slowness of the loss.  The one good thing was that I was never hungrier than the amount of food couldn't take care of.  I had a steady loss each week with only one week going up a half a pound during the last week of November.  You guessed it, the week after Thanksgiving.  Holidays were and are a challenge just because of all the food put in front of you.  Having to saying No to people was another challenge but one I take to better myself.  Boy did I have to say No.  My Mother-in-law was the worst.  She was always pushing food in front of me and baking cakes and pies and sending them home with me.  It really upset me one day that I had to say something to her.  I hurt her feelings and later had to say I was sorry but I couldn't eat that food and I needed her to stop pushing it on me. By January 27th 2008 I had reached my goal of losing 50lbs.!  It was just under six months to lose those 50 heavy pounds.  I stayed on the Nutrisystem plan almost 100% (99.98%) the whole time.  I wasn't quite sure how to get off the plan without gaining weight back.  Yes I was scared and unsure of what was to come next.  I didn't add exercise to my life at first, but started walking again back in Sept..   It was very painful to walk because I still had swelling in my back and my legs hurt.  Week by week I got stronger and with each pound gone I felt better and better. In January I stepped up the exercising and also started the Fit In 2008 on the blogs and charted that for several blogger friends for 12 weeks.  Although I chart my own exercise daily I really gave up on that because it was a lot of work and too hard to get people to report on time to chart it.  It was fun, but I don't think people realize how much work it was to do that for them every week. I continued to lose weight as I tried to figure out the maintenance part of Nutrisystem.  Down the next 10 lbs by the end of March.   I no longer chart my food but I do still chart my exercise.  I am maintaining now at 115 lbs, some days 116 lbs.  I follow the Nutrisystem principles and I am doing great.  I don't skip meals ever and I make sure to get in all my water and more. I blog most mornings and enjoy reading all the feedback on it.  I have put my ups and downs here so others will know my life is just like theirs.  Giving some of me and taking some of you bloggers.  Giving hope and knowledge and taking it as needed.  Helping to support others along the way.  I love the blogs and the great people on here.  I have made many great friends on here. This is also a great part of Nutrisystem, so I hope you will use it too. This is my story printed for you.  I hope it helps you along your journey.

Have a great day everyone!

Marie

Thanks for being there for all the newcomers like myself and those who need a good kick in the butt to get motivated.
Thanks to the challenges you have thrown out there to us, it has kept me motivated and watching everything I put in my mouth and gotten me walking on a regular basis. I have a walking buddy now and we put in at least a mile every day. It was hot here yesterday and I needed to be somewhere at 8pm and I was still able to get in 1.5 miles of walking before my appointment last night.
I am down almost 28 pounds since beginning the program on March 18th. I actually have hit my oriiginal goal of 230 as of this morning but I amended that goal after I started so I can shoot instead for 220. Who knows, I may want to keep going after I hit that, thanks to your motivation.
Another tip I have for those on the plan is to check your local Craigslist for people selling their food. I've been able to snage a two-month supply for half price, twice now, from people who gave for one reason or another and didn't want to ship their food back to NS. I am careful though to make sure they are selling me the current line of food and not the stuff that was on the shelves at Big Lots, which is the old line that expires this year.
Thanks for being there Marie and telling us your story.

Thank you so much Kenny.  I am so proud of you.  Look at you go!  I bet you feel great too?  It amazes me how wonderful we feel and how could we can let ourselves go ever again.  I hope this is the very last diet I ever do, but it is up to me to continue to make the right choices.  So far so good.  Have a great day Kenny.

Thank you so much for sharing your story. I ws working my way up to black belt when one torn and one herinated disk threw me my final blow. I wasn't a able to get disk replacement surgery due to the arthritis in my spine. I kind of felt numb to the world due the the medications that they gave me for the pain. I cried for a week when the doctor finally told me that I will never be at the level that I was. Well today,  I am done being high and I am done feeling the jiggle. I was never very thin but I was always athletic and healthy. With inspration from those like you, I know I can and will do it.

Thank you for sharing your story Marie.  It is amazing that you lost those 50 lbs so quickly and then continued to lose.  I pray to follow in your footsteps (except 60 is my initial loss).  I didn't get going as well as you did - too many weekends of cheating, but am improving.  I believe today is day 52 or 53  for me (based on the daily click) and I am down 12 lbs - which I know if I had stayed true to the plan would have been much much better (I initially lost 13 lbs in the 1st 2 weeks).  What a difference 100% can make!   I understand the nervousness you had about maintenance, I feel the same way already : )

Thank you for constintantly inspriring all of us, it helps a LOT.  God Bless, Judy

Thanks for sharing your story with us Marie!  Very inspiring!  And thanks for the great tip, Kenny, on the Craigslist postings.  I'm thinking that will be a great resource when I get to my maintenance phase in another month or two - I've been worried about going cold-turkey and that might be a good way to supplement my own shopping and wean myself off slowly.

Judy the plan does work but you will have to commit to fallowing it 100% and then the pounds will come off faster.  You know 12 pounds in under 2 months is still very good.  I would say you are on the right track to losing all you want.  Have a great day.  Thank you for commenting on my blogs.  It makes me feel good to know I am helping someone.  Marie

Tim in your last month is the time to add a non-NS meal in here and there.  Try going out to a resturant one day.  Read the menus first and use what you have learned.  Start buying some cereals.  Read the labels.  Some I like are Kashi and Kellogg's Smart Start.  NS let you eat pasta so you can eat pasta just remember the portion sizes you learned.  Salads I eat big, Big, BIG with LF salad dressing (2 tbs.).  I hope this helps take the scare out of it for you and others.  Marie

Very inspiring.  I noticed the comment about GAS.  I have had a lot of that since starting NS.  Just 2 weeks into NS now and have lost about 8 1/2 pounds.  Don't feel short changed on food at all.  I like the offerings that NS sent to me (first order).  Keep your nose to the grindstone.  Good job!

I've been on NS for a week and a half now.  I've only lost one and a half pounds.  It's discouraging, but I'm determined to continue on.  I follow the plan 100%.  Your story is truly encouraging.  Congratulations!!!  Thanks so much for the comment about the gas.  I thought it was just me.  Will the gas go away?  It's been tough at work.  What's the deal with the NS foods at Big Lots?  What's the difference if they are not part of the current plan?

scenic1 just keep with it and  the pounds will start to drop.  We called it the Nutri-toots, lol. It's the soy and sugar alcohols.  It just depends on what you eat.  You know the saying about beans and tooting, lol. The NS at Big Lots is the old food.  Yes it works, but be careful to check the expire dates before buying out of date food. Have a great day.  Marie

Thank you for your story - I am still working on the program and has 100 plus to lose. I am a little scared about getting to the maintenance part. The day I blogged that Rice A Roni is not single serving I couldn't believe how many people responded. I finally understand when healthy people say they eat what they want. Telling people no about the food was a big obstacle for me as well. I have mastered it by bringing my own food where ever I go. Be prepared to eat healthy is mo new montra. Thank you again for your insuring story.Keep in keeping on .......

Good luck to you too sonorawren.  It sounds like your doing great.  The maintenance part is scary in your mind but if you will take your last month or two and start adding normal everyday food in, you will see it really is not as hard as we think it will be.  Get use to it before coming to the end of your weight loss journey and if I can help you just message me anytime.  Have a great evening.  Marie
