I'm not sure how many of you have heard about this, or how many have or will sign up, but I just signed up for the Pound for Pound challenge on biggestloser.com. It's a challenge where you pledge to lose so much weight by the end of the challenge, and General Mills donates 10 cents for every pound that America loses! (10 cents will buy a pound of food- hence Pound for Pound challenge)
OK-for example, I signed up today- start date of 12/17/2008. I pledged to lose 35 pounds by the end of the challenge. (I can have my final weigh-in anytime between April 1 and May 5, 2009) So- when I'm done, they will donate 35 lbs of food to food banks around the area. (or whatever my ending weight loss is...up to 2 lbs per week)
Here's the thing- my 35 lbs doesn't seem like a lot in the grand scheme of things. Everything helps...but General Mills is donating at least $100,000 but will go all the way up to $500,000! America has pledged to lose almost 216,000 lbs so far. That number needs to be more like 5 MILLION pounds to get them to donate $500,000.
I was thinking- with all the people here on NS- rockin' the weight loss...how great would it be to get the NS group to pledge? I mean, we're losing the weight anyway, right? This would be a free way to help out the poor and hungry people of America! And since we all ROCK, the amount of food that we could get them to donate would be ASTOUNDING! It's really easy- doesn't cost anything to do...and all you have to do is go to biggestloser.com and sign up. It's at the top of their page!
Hope you join me!
