Vegetarian hot dogs are NOT created equal...and other discoveries

Let me start by stating: I am an omnivore.  I love most foods.  It's genetic...granddaughter of a Greek chef.  Live in Foodie-Land also known as The San Francisco Bay Area.  There are probably 15 great restaurants within walking distance of my house.  However, sometimes you need a veggie dog for someone coming over...here is where I find myself today.

SonBo turns 17 on Monday.  I don't know how that can be, but it is.  He's having a party (Tiki themed) in our back yard on Saturday.  We have quite a fewTiki accessories already (ahem...), two BBQs to fire up and all the torches you could hope for.  There will be a pile of kids - several who are vegetarians.  So, being the stellar hostess I am ("get your own drink!"), I checked out the veggie burger/dog section at Trader Joe's.  There were 5 to choose from - I got two sausage types...the difference between them is tremendous - in calories alone!  One is 140 (13 grams protein 70 calories fat) for an Italian Sausage and one is 270 (29 grams protein 120 calories fat)!  Amazing.  They are the same size.  Hmmm.  Now the taste test...but I eat meat.  How do I decide?  Well, I chose the lower calorie one for a lunch entree with salad.  Hus-Bo will have the higher calorie one for dinner and I'll have a bite of that.  Then the "jury" will be in.  They cannot possibly be created equal.  I'll let you know.

But here's another wonderful benefit of NS...I went to 6 stores in 3 regions and parked three times.  Walked everywhere.  Bought most of the party stuff.  Did it in about 2 hours.  I feel fantastic.

OH!  I ran into one of my former Pilates students yesterday and she said I looked great - like I was really keeping fit.  She never knew I had gained weight since I left the gym in 2007.  YAY!  And today I ran into another friend who HAS seen me through thick...and she said, "Wow!  You've really lost weight!"  FLOATING, people!

Peace and joy ~ Shannon

Okay...Aren't hot dogs supposed to be lips and a$$es anyway? Come on....it's what they are!! I'm not a big hot dog lover, but there is something unnatural about one made out of vegetables and grain. I hope at least one of them works out okay for you, otherwise you could just let them just suck on a rutabaga and call it good.

Congratz on the compliments....makes you feel pretty darned special, doesn't it? (Of course, you started out that way to begin with...but every little "Atta Girl" helps, huh)

Happy Birthday to dear, sweet SonBo! Give him a great big kiss for me. In Italy, when someone has a birthday, the tradition is to pull there ears the same number of times as their age. Weird isn't it? Anyhoo, I can see that Momma is gearing up to shed some tears at her baby growing up.

You deserve all the compliments that come your way. You've worked darned hard for them and it sure is nice to have that recognized. It's just the best feeling to have someone compliment you -- may be be receiving many, many more.

Aw, aren't you sweet to be so conscientious of your vegetarian guests?! As one who has had to be cool with like, carrot garnishes, let me tell you: it's appreciated!
Let me know which one you like. I think it's just a matter of preference either way, but we like the SmartDogs around here.
It's the vegetarian chik'n nuggets that get a little...Oogy. Not that I really eat those anymore, but: yech.
Happy Birthday in advance to SonBo! Hope you have a great tiki time! :)
