Another upside to the Eagle Project

There is a huge aura of accomplishment around SonBo's being these days.  His stress level is definitely reducing and, today, his buddies from high school are coming en masse to help him finish the main part of his project.  These are boys and girls who will be there through thick and thin.  I love these kids.  So, by the end of today, we should have a planter box ready for compost delivery and plants.

What's the upside for me (other than the obvious)?  Well, HusBo and I have a little dilemma in our front yard.  I will call it the "rose bush" in order to be pleasant, but that isn't what I call it most days.  Anyway, we have this pale, climbing rose at the front of the house which I do not love.  In fact, sadly, I do not love roses in general.  So, we have agreed to donate the rose bush to the Eagle Project.  Subsequently, we will find another climbing rose that has a more robust color (for me) but is still a rose (for him).  It's a decent solution for everyone...the animals will not care what color the roses they eat are.  Plus they don't mind thorns!  Gee, I am a happy camper!

So, it is off to the site again in a couple of hours.  When this day is finished we will have results...and that is a very good thing.

Peace and joy ~ Shannon

So lovely when a plan comes together! Collateral benefits are so wonderful and you get all that credit for donating your cherished (NOT!) rose bush! I've never been one for roses either and since my cats are indoors and no one sends me roses, they do not understand the nutritional benefits of the flower!

Oh dear...I am a rose lover and sadly am terrible at growing them. But, I have neglected many over the years and occasionally one will present me a glorious blooming season. But, I have many an unwanted forget-me-not that I'd like to be rid of...??? Sounds like your son has some GREAT friends. :)

I'm with you, Shannon, regardless of the color, I've never been a fan of the ever popular rose bush. At least you found it a good home :o)

In my book, roses are just sticks with thorns about 8 months out of the year. I suppose they're okay if you have the time and energy to "baby" them, but I refuse to go out and dry their little leaves so they don't mildew or get thrip, or aphids, or whatever rose disease is going around that year. We have 3 "shrub" roses that were planted with the admonition "You'll get water, you might get some food...live or die, you're decision." They've been the easiest we've ever had.

I bet the whole "BO" family will be proud-but-glad when this whole project is done. Please post a picture of the finished job, cause some of us have developed "sympathy callouses" for you, during this process.

Hugs to all!!

I'm with Tobe. Hate the persnickity things. I pulled the last one out last year. Turns out it was hiding a broken window and the neighbor kids football. The window cost me $400 to replace. I'm not saying the rose bush was to blame but ???

We finally found something that we disagree on -- I love roses. Can't say I am that good at tending to them, but occasionally I do remember to water them and prune them. The best part is occasionally finding a little vase by the side of my bed that my sweet husband picked just for me.

Great job guys on the Eagle Project. Is it being dedicated to you and Hus-Bo. You've both put in so much work that I think a little plaque in your honor would be sweet. Pictures would definitely be appreciated of the finished project.

Wow, more roses for Rose and me, then! I love 'em. I miss growing them, too.
Coffee grounds. That's what I used to amend my roses with in my little cottage in California. I had a spectacular rose garden, and so enjoyed pampering the heck out of them every weekend. I'd go out with my hat and gloves on, and go to town. Some were over 50 years old.
But I guess you would have hated it...Ha! Let's see the pics when you get them! :)
