So... here's my question/story.  I've been sticking to program 100%, no issues.  Haven't been hungry or a feeing of deprived.  I exercise about 1 hour in the mornings 6x's a week (eliptical & weight lifting then my cross training is treadmill and power plate) I golf about 4 - 5 times a week (with a golf cart) and I try to walk everyplace as much as possible.  I drink tons of water (way more then the 8 glasses).  I have been on the program 21 days and have lost 10 lbs (I'm trilled with that - my goal is another 20).  I eat all the food I am suppose to so thats not an issue.  I have had 3 super hungry days.  2 were a couple of days ago... which I survived... and today was a hungry day.  So... I had my normal breaky at around 7 am... by 10 I was starved so I had a lunch bar... I ate my lunch at 11:30, then golfed and ate asa I was done the golf game at 5 (forgot to pack my snack) then I ate my dessert right after.  I am fine (not hungry now).... my calorie intake for the day is just shy of the 1200.  SO MY QUESTION IS... I didn't have my afternoon snack... should I still be having it tonight before I go to bed... or does my calorie count for the day suffice for my afternoon snack ???  I don't need it but I'm wondering if I should have it anyway???  I tried to listen to my body this morning, I was hungry... I ate... during golf I wasn't hungry so I didn't go looking for a make shift snack.  Any help, thoughts would be appreciate...

1200 calories is what your daily intake should be without the exercise. As active as you are, I'd say you should be adding another 200 easily, but check (and DOUBLE check) with a counselor to be sure. She/he may have you add an extra protein and/or fruit-veggie serving.

As far as today, by all means, have your snack, I think you need the extra calories :o)

I completely agree with bounteous1 about possibly needing more calories because of your activity. The other thing to do is look at free foods, you can add up to 3 of them a day. They may help you out a bit too.

You should be ok without the snack. 1200 is usually my goal. If you get hungry before bed have the snack then. You exercise a bunch so if you have hungry days, contact the counselor to see about adding a protein or something. I keep sugar free jello in the frig as well as fat free cool whip to go on it and on my hungry days, I eat that as an extra. Sounds like you are doing great!!

You exercise quite a bit. You will figure this out but eventually, and very soon I would guess, you will stop losing because you are not eating enough calories. With your exercise schedule, you should probably be adding protein snacks i.e. 3 oz of protein to equal 300 calories throughout the day. You will have to figure out what your body needs and unfortunately it takes trial and error and time. Im not sure how much you have to lose, but that will also be a decisive factor in the formula. Unfortunately, there is no set answer. Weight loss science is so individualized. Hope you can find your balance soon :) nc

I agree that it can take a bit of time to find the balance. Like you, I get most hungry EARLY in the day, and am fine in the evening without snacking. So....if I'm having a "hungry day", I will often just move my meals/snacks up to about 2 hours apart, often finishing everything by 5 or 6 pm (or, like yesterday, 4 pm, although I did save my green beans to eat with husband when he had his dinner).

I exercise 3-5 times a week, fairly moderately, but the running is more strenuous -- I do this 2-3 times a week.

I started NS back in May, and by July I realized that I can (and should) eat about 1500-1600 calories most days (the extra calories usually come from protein/dairy, but I vary them a bit - not too scientific I admit), and then I lose 1-2 lbs almost every week. I have NEVER yet plateaued for more than one week, and I have consistently lost inches the entire time.

Most importantly, I feel good. I do not feel starved, as I believe I would if I consistently tried to "cheat" my body of enough calories.

I have lost 36 lbs in 27 weeks on NS...and have about 16 more to go I think. So the fact that I'm STILL losing 1 or 2 lbs most weeks on 1500-1600 calories a day is of note.

Everyone is different, but I advise you talk to a counselor and would guess you should add additional protein/dairy in order to ensure both enough calories AND to avoid losing muscle, too!

Have a great day!

Thanks so much everyone for your comments... I will contact a councellor tomorrow to discuss and I am thinking that I will up my calories / protiens. Today I had lots of the free foods with my lunch and supper (zucc & spinach) plus had a bit more then allowed for vegies (peppers, peas, tomatoe) and I was very satisfied. Thanks again I really appreciate it.
